Rapid technological developments and globalization have brought new challenges for the protection of personal data, as the scale of the collection and sharing of personal data has increased significantly and technology allows private companies to make use of personal data on an unprecedented scale in order to pursue their activities.
This led to an increased awareness regarding the data protection rules, in order to ensure compliance, which culminated with the entry into force of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), starting with May 25th, 2018, applicable to any EU legal entity and/or any non-EU legal entity which collects and processes personal data of EU-citizens.
